Top 4 Brunch Spots in Nashville

When I explore a new city, it typically comes with a set of expectations; a list of feelings I intend to enjoy or dismiss.  The New York City subway is fun and exciting the first time, for about ten minutes.  The small town in Montana is interesting until the one bar in town gets old and there’s nowhere else to go.  Novelty usually wears off, however, in Music City… it doesn’t.

There’s a hometown honesty that fills the air.  There’s an encouragement you feel when you know people are flocking to the city and houses are flying off the market.  There is a combined sense of purpose.  Thousands of little dreamers with big hearts and outrageous goals, who take on Nashville with a few bucks and a guitar.  There’s nothing like the feeling of coming home, and even though I’m new to Tennessee, that’s exactly how  it feels.

2020 made the world bitter, but this city has a way of tackling that sour covid taste and giving you hope.  Time seems less wasted and more fulfilled.  Conversations seem slower and more intentional.  Music seems rawer.  This place is like a fairytale land that just helps everything “make sense.”

You can’t separate native art from culture.  Although people move to Nashville to pursue their country music dreams, people are often bringing the woes of their small town and finding a way to connect with those who had different roots but share the same pangs.

Imagine there’s a mecca, an oasis, a golden road leading to Oz, except, in fact, that road leads to a maze, a challenge, and a mystery and you’re almost excited that it isn’t “that easy.”  If something were easy, everyone would do it and it wouldn’t be worth it.  People don’t head to Nashville for their career to be a free-flowing easy walk in the park.  It’s a gold rush headed back the other direction.  People move for “more” and that’s what I’m hoping to find; more of me.  More of who I am.  I welcome the troubles and the challenges ahead.

When it comes to the food scene, Nashville is all about it. Here are some of the best brunch spots Dasha and I experienced:

Gray & Dudley at the 21c Nashville

Gray & Dudley is Southern Cuisine with lovely cocktails, surrounded by contemporary art.   Close to broadway.  This chic spot in Downtown Printer’s Alley is spacious, quiet, and peaceful.  It’s a great way to start your Nashville sightseeing before you take on the craziness of Broadway.

Henley at the Kimpton Aertson

From fried biscuit pieces to dilly deviled eggs to a stellar omelet, the Henley’s brunch menu next level. They are also known for their cocktails (checkout the Bloody!) The Henley is attached to the Kimpton Aertson in Midtown.

Makeready at the Noelle

The Noelle Nashville is a beast on it’s own, but oh my- the food down in Makeready will seal the deal. Make sure to get the Printer’s Plate, The L+L Burger, or Avocado Toast. Our favorite was the omelette!

City Winery Nashville

There’s nothing like eating brunch with wide views of the downtown Nashville skyline. You will be blown away by this brunch menu! Next level avocado toast and fried chicken biscuits. The charcuterie is also on point.
