The Marcus Whitman Hotel
There’s no way to really know Walla Walla without knowing its rich history, and a big part of that history starts right in the center at the Marcus Whitman Hotel.
Missionaries Marcus and Narcissa Whitman came to Washington in the 1830’s to work with a local tribe and despite their untimely death, their memory was not forgotten when the luxury hotel was planned in 1927. It has drawn celebrities, presidents, and is a stunning beauty in historic downtown Walla Walla with a classic style.

Below is a short recap of my stay.
Walla Walla is quite the experience.
It’s like one of those places people tell you about and then you dream about it, itching to go until you just—make it happen! I already knew I loved the varietals of grapes that grow best in the Walla Walla AVA, so I knew I’d at least enjoy that part of the valley. However, little did I know that the Marcus Whitman would have such a grand impact on my experience.

I kicked off my trip with a Summer Wine Dinner with wine provided by Dunham Cellars.
Owner Joanne Dunham of Dunham Cellars gave us the beautiful story of their winery.
The Sunset Terrace Wine Dinner was packed with excellent wine pairings with each meal and the chef walked us through the menu, step by step. It was exquisite. I was delighted to see that despite the heat of Summer in Walla Walla, there was still a red wine pairing with the steak. Three white wines were also served to compliment other dishes.

The hotel is smack dab in downtown.
You can walk anywhere. Dozens of tasting rooms are right outside of your door. You are also only about 10 minutes from dozens of other stunning vineyards and tasting rooms in wine country.
What is especially notable about the hotel’s location is that it is just blocks away from lovely restaurants like Brasserie Four and Hattaway’s on Alder.

The hotel room was large, classic, and homey.
Also cannot argue with a huge jacuzzi tub in the middle of the space.
